The operator is the engine behind every automatic gate. For new installs we work with two trusted brands — LiftMaster and Genie — matched to your gate style, weight, cycle load and power availability. We service every major brand on the market, so existing systems are covered too.
Swing Gate Operators
Every swing gate needs an operator sized to its weight, width, duty cycle and power source. For new installs we work with LiftMaster and Genie — both well-supported in Canada, with proven performance in Winnipeg winters. The right pick depends on the job, not the badge.
| Operator | Type | Max Gate Length | Max Gate Weight | Cycles / Day | Best For |

| LiftMaster LA400PKGU | Arm (AC Linear) | 16 ft | 500 lb | 50 | Entry-level residential driveway |

Specs are manufacturer-published typical ratings — actual derating applies for wind-load, solid panels, inclines and sub-zero operation. We confirm the right operator on-site.
Slide Gate Operators
Slide gate operators drive a chain, rack or belt to move the gate panel across the opening. LiftMaster and Genie both offer residential through heavy-commercial slide operators — we'll size the horsepower, duty cycle and drive type to the gate you actually have.
| Operator | Type | Max Gate Weight | Max Gate Length | Cycles / Day | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LiftMaster SL585Solar ready | Residential Slide (DC) | 1,000 lb | 50 ft | 300 | Residential — our default slide operator |
| LiftMaster SL3000 | Residential Slide (AC) | 1,000 lb | 40 ft | 100 | Residential AC-powered alternative |
| LiftMaster CSL24ULCommercial | Commercial Slide (DC) | 2,500 lb | 60 ft | 1,500 | Medium-duty commercial, UL 325 |

| Genie Pro Commercial SlideCommercial | Commercial Slide (DC) | 2,500 lb | 60 ft | 1,500 | Medium-duty commercial sites |
Gate weight dictates horsepower. Always add 20–30% headroom for Manitoba winter ice load and solid panel wind load.
Barrier Arm Operators
Barrier arms are all about cycle time. The operators are purpose-built for the high-frequency, short-distance motion of a parking gate — usually 1–2 seconds per cycle, hundreds of thousands of cycles per year, without maintenance. LiftMaster's MegaArm and TECHNA families cover most parkade and condo jobs; Genie offers commercial parking-gate operators for lighter-duty lanes where simpler controls and a lower price point fit the job.
| Operator | Open Time | Max Arm Length | Cycle Life | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LiftMaster MegaArm DC | 2 sec | 14 ft | 1M cycles | Condos, small parkades — DC entry model |
| LiftMaster MegaArm Pro | 1.5 sec | 14 ft | 2M cycles | Parking lots, condos, commercial |
| LiftMaster MegaArm Tower | 1.5 sec | 20 ft | 2M cycles | Wide openings, commercial yards |
| LiftMaster TECHNANewest | 1 sec | 20 ft | 3M cycles | Highest-traffic — fast-cycle spec |
| Genie Commercial Barrier | 2 sec | 14 ft | 1M cycles | Light-commercial parking, small parkades |
LED-lit arms, articulating arms (for low-clearance garages), skirted arms, and breakaway arms are available on most LiftMaster models. Need crash-rated (K4/K8/M30/M50) or anti-ram hardware? That's outside the LiftMaster and Genie lineups — we specify and service those separately, ask us for options.
Feature Matrix
The two brands we install — LiftMaster and Genie — both cover the core features that matter: smart app control, solar, battery backup, access control integration and UL 325 compliance. Here's how they stack up so you can pick the one that fits your property, not the other way around.

Neither brand wins across the board — they have different strengths. LiftMaster's commercial and industrial lineup runs deeper (high-cycle slide, crash-proximate barrier arms, big swing operators). Genie is often the right call on residential and light-commercial jobs where a straightforward, reliable DC operator with solid smart-app support gets the job done. We'll walk you through which fits your site before we quote.
Power & Connectivity
Every automatic gate we install includes battery backup rated for at least 10 cycles during a power outage. For sites without reliable 120V power we install solar-charged systems with 2+ days of battery autonomy even through a Winnipeg winter.
Connectivity matters too — cellular modems let you monitor and control the gate from anywhere, even if your home WiFi goes down. All modern operators support smartphone entry, remote codes, usage logging and instant alerts.
Service & Repair
Even the best gate operators eventually need service. Common issues include frozen photo eyes, dead backup batteries, broken chains, burned-out control boards, and loose limit switches. We service every major brand on the market — not just the ones we install — so your existing operator stays covered whatever badge it wears.
If you're looking at your operator right now and it won't open, check our troubleshooting guide before you call — it'll often save you a service charge. If the problem is beyond DIY, we offer emergency service across Winnipeg.
